The MLB Playoffs- League Championship Series

The Montreal Expos will face the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Championship. During the regular season, the Reds won 6 of the 9 games head to head. Montreal finished 6th in offense with 380 runs, but that's because they played small ball and stole a lot of bases as they were ranked 12th in actual hitting. They will face the Reds pitching that was ranked 6th with 391 runs against. The Expos will face the NL's top offense, the Reds scored 484 runs, just over 1 more run per game then the Expos. The Expos had the number 2 pitching staff that allowed just 352 runs. Advantage Reds.

Game one will be in Cincinnati with Expos starting RHP Eddie Hernanez, the Expos starter has never pitched in the post season, but was 10-7 with a 3.13 ERA in 22 starts for the Expos. He led all NL pitchers with 143.2 IPs. The Reds will go with RHP Nick Grace, the 29 year old was 10-7 with a 3.18 ERA in 21 starts. Like Hernanez, he has never pitched in the post season.

This game did not start out very good for the Expos as SP Eddie Hernanez was shakey an allowed 3 runs in the 1st, Hernanez allowed 4 walks over 5 innings as control was an issue. The Expos bull pen kept the game close allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk over the final 4 innings as the Expos came back to win game one.

Despite the loss, Reds SP Nick Grace was the player of the game. He is now 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 1 start. This was his first career post season appearance.

The Expos got a key hit from Gilberto Luna in the 8th. With runners on the corners and 2-out, Luna hit a 2 run double to make the score 5-3 for Montreal.

Expos PH Vince Bowman hit a RBI triple in the 9th to put the icing on the cake for the Expos. Expos RHP Will Gibson gets the win for his work in the 7th, he goes to 1-0 while CL Aidan Beasley struck out 2 and faced 3 hitters for the save.

Kansas City Royals 1B Francisco Miranda was 3 for 4 with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs in a 5-4 win over the Red Sox. The 27 year old hit .289 with 4 HRs and 45 RBIs in 100 games this season. Last year Miranda hit .268 with 3 HRs and 37 RBIs in 85 games with the Royals. The Royals lead the series 1-0.

The Montreal Expos look to take a 2-0 lead in the series as they play the Cincinnati Reds. The Expos will go with LHP Jordan Hall, the 27 year old has never pitched in the post season and was a 6-4 with a 3.39 ERA in 21 starts for the Expos during the regular season. The Reds will go with LHP John Martin, the 27 year old was 7-3 with a 2.64 ERA in 22 starts. This will be Martins 1st post season appearance.

The Expos needed extra innings and overcame CL Aidan Beasley's blown save to take a commanding lead in the series as it goes back to Montreal for 3 games.

Expos SP Jordan Hall was named the player of the game and is now 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 1 start. In his 3rd season in the MLB, Hall got his 1st career MLB win this season.

The Expos got a clutch hit from LF Mike Waddell in the 10th, his 1-out RBI single gave the Expos the 4-3 lead.

The Expos got an RBI triple by SS David Sanchez in the 2nd inning. CF Danny Plantz's HR was his 1st career post season HR.

Despite the blown save, CL Aidan Beasley gets the win to go 1-0 in the playoffs. LHP Matt Cruz got the save, his 1st of the playoffs in his 1st post season appearance.

Expos SP Eric Marks looked like he did the job and the bullpen took over with a 3-1 lead with usually reliable LHP Charlie Rancourt called on to pitch to 3 straight lefty batters in the 7th. Well after 3 hits and 3 runs and only getting 1-out, Rancourt was done and they could not come back.

Reds LF Dave Osuna was named the player of the game, he was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. He had a critical triple with 1 out that scored 2 runs in the 7th against Rancourt. So far in these playoffs, Osuna is hitting .545 with 0 HRs and 3 RBIs in 3 games. This is Osuna's first time in the post season.

Reds C Pat Emmel added a 2 run double in the 7th to give the Reds the 5-3 lead.

Expos LHP Charlie Rancourt is charged with the blown save and the loss, he is 0-1 in the playoffs.

The Expos get a walk off, lead off 9th inning HR from David Sanchez to beat the Reds and take a 3-1 series lead. In the top of the 9th, the Reds scored to tie it as another Expos reliever blew a lead. This is CL Aidan Beasley's 2nd blown save in 3 post season appearances.

Reds RF Ed Betancourt was the player of the game in a losing cause, he was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs including a 2 run HR in the 1st inning. It was also Betancourt's error in RF that allowed the Expos to eventually score 4 unearned runs in the 1st inning. Betancourt is now hitting .333 with 1 HR and 3 RBIs in 4 post season games as a rookie.

Expos 3B Gilberto Luna had 3 hits for the Expos. CL Aiden Beasley gets the win after blowing the save and is now 2-0 in the playoffs, but has a 9.00 ERA in 3 games.

The Expos could not take advantage of a well pitched game by Eddie Hernanez and their inability to score runs for him showed up again.

Reds SP Nick Grace was the player of the game and has forced the series to go back to Cincinnati. The 29 year old is now 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA in 2 starts during his first appearance the MLB post season.

The big hit that put the Expos in the hole was lead off hitters Ismael Valle's 2 out triple that scored 2 runs after Hernanez walked the Reds pitcher Grace with 2 outs.

With the loss, Hernanez falls to 0-1 in the post season. The Expos still lead the series 3-2.

The Montreal Expos will be going onto the World Series with their win over the Reds. Expos got a solo HR by 1B Darren Maher who was named the League Championship MVP in the 8th to make it 2-1. The very next batter Mat Garnett got plunked by a frustrated Mark Jardin, likely because he was the pitcher of record in all four Expos victories. Both Garnett and Jardin were ejected after the benches cleared.

Maher in his 1st post season in the MLB, hit .368 with 1 HR and 5 RBIs in the 6 games (25 PA), he was also walked 5 times.

The player of the game was Expos SP Jordan Hall, he is 1-0 with a 0.66 ERA in 2 starts this post season. (13.2 IP)

The Expos got a solid inning of relief from RHP Will Gibson and had LHP Charlie Rancourt face the final 2 Reds hitters, both lefties. He got his 1st save.

The Montreal Expos grab game 1 with a win in a tight game. It appeared Montreal had things in good shape until a PH Sho Motoi 3 run HR in the 6th tied the game. The Expos did get the lead back on a CF Danny Plantz Sac Fly that scored PR Roberto Duran in the 8th. Montreal CL Aidan Beasley who was shaky in the NL League Championship gave up a lead off hit in the 9th that startled the Expos faithful, but he got a timely double play to end the threat and get his 2nd save to the post season.

Expos C Mark Inge was named the player of the game, he was 2 for 3 including a solo HR in the 5th. His single in the 8th got things started in the inning, he was lifted for a Duran to PR and he later scored. Inge is now hitting .222 with 1 HR and 4 RBIs in 7 post season games. For his career he is hitting .265 with 2 HRs and 12 RBIs in 18 post season games.

The Montreal Expos had their chances including bases loaded and 0-outs in the 7th, only to not score a run. A walk off, lead off HR in the 10th by Sven Schultz off of RHP Carlos Vera, the only batter he faced so far in the post season was the difference as the Boston Red Sox stay alive.

Red Sox SS Matt Nesser was the player of the game, he was 3 for 5 with 3 singles and scored 2 with an RBI. The 24 year old is now hitting .381 with 0 HRs and 5 RBIs in 11 games. Nesser despite his age has 4 year of MLB post season experience, in 38 games he is hitting .299 with 0 HRs and 9 RBIs.

The Expos bull-pen let the Expos down again as the offense did put up a fight. CL Aidan Beasley came into the game in the 9th and faced just 3 hitters, 2 for singles and a walk and allowed Matt Nessers walk off RBI single and the loss.

The Expos appeared out of the game until C Mark Inge hit a 2-out Grand Slam HR in the 7th to get the Expos to 6-5. The Expos tied it in the 8th and looked to take the lead when SS David Sanchez's deep fly ball to CF should have scored Vince Bowman, but Bowman who is not exactly fleet of foot got thrown out a home plate.

Expos C Mark Inge was the player of the game, he was 2 for 3 with a HR, HBP, 4 RBI and scored once. Inge is now hitting .293 with 2 HRs and 9 RBIs in 11 post season games. For his career, Inge is hitting .293 with 3 HRs and 17 RBIs in 22 post season games.

Expos LHP Robbie Jones falls to 0-1 with the loss. Red Sox SP Lorenzo Vasquez left the game with an injury while pitching.

Could this turn out to be a terrible collapse ? The Montreal Expos have had 3 cracks at winning the World Series after taking a 3-0 lead. The Expos were there own worst enemy when a 2 out throwing error with the score tied 1-1 extending the inning, turning into a 4 run nightmare.

Red Sox SP Jared Sims was the player of the game, he is now 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 5 games including 4 starts in the playoffs. For his career, in 13 post season games including 12 starts, Sims is 6-2 with a 3.10 ERA.

Expos SS David Sanchez hit his 2nd 2-out triple of the playoffs, only to be stranded again. Expos SP Eddie Hernanez takes the loss and falls to 1-2 in the post season.

Well it all boils down to a 1 game, a 7th game between the Boston Red Sox and the Montreal Expos. After taking a 3-0 lead in the series, and losing the next 3 games, can the Expos reclaim enough composure to win the World Series in front of their fans. A fan base that right now that has gone from excitement and anticipation to one of nerves and tension. Over 35300 have shown up to see LHP Emanuel Peralta having to make his 2nd start and 3rd appearance in these playoffs. The 25 year old is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 4 IPs. Peralta didn't even pitch in the regular season as he was injured in spring training and was forced into duty with the exhausted Red Sox rotation. Montreal will start LHP Jordan Hall, the 27 year old is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 3 starts (19.0 IPs) in these playoffs.

The Montreal Expos are the 1978 World Series Champs. The Expos got a break in 10th with runners on 1st and 2nd and 0-outs, 2B Mat Garnett was asked to bunt and that he did, Sven Schultz played the bunt and over threw 1st base allowing Mike Waddell to score from 2nd.

Before we got to extra innings, this game had more drama. With 1 on and 1-out in the bottom of the 9th, 3B Vince Bowman brought the fans out of their seats with his 2 run HR.

A couple of Expos that are likely not going to be back next year ended their Expos careers on a high note. C Nate Samms who leads most of the Expos offensive career categories had a PH single in the 9th while LHP Robbie Jones pitched the 10th and got a win to make him 1-1 during the post season.

Expos SP Jordan Hall was the player of the game, he finished the post season with a 1-0 record, a 1.80 ERA in 4 starts including 25 IP's.

Expos C Mark Inge was named the World Series MVP, he hit 277 with 2 HRs and 9 RBIs in 13 games during the post season.

1978 Montreal Expos Recap and Off SeasonName: Montreal Expos Logo.jpg

Well there is no time to waste after the celebrations of the Franchises 1st World Series Win. There are personnel decisions and player decisions to make.

Our Hitting Coach in A ball has retired as well as our Bench Coach of the Expos. So there are 2 positions to hire for. As well we have 2 pending Team Options to consider....

C Nate Samms, the 37 year old has a $7.5 M team option for 1979. The Expos starting C from 1969-1976 has seen his plate appearances and starts reduced considerable since 1976 when his production dropped off. A consistent .270 hitter with about 15 HRs and 50 RBI guy from 1969-1975, over the past 3 years he had just 3 HRs and 49 RBIs in about 130 starts. With the trade for Mark Inge and an up and coming Tony Sanchez (.296 9 HRs and 47 RBIs in 66 AA games) its time for Samms to ride off into the sunset. The Expos will not execute his Option.

LHP Robby Jones, the 33 year old has a $3.5 M team option for 1979. After the Expos acquired Jones in a trade in 1970 from the Phillies, he appeared in 253 games from 1970-1978. He was a career 1.24 Whip, but especially tough on LHB where they were hitting just .184 for his career, but in 1978 he had a tough time getting lefties out as they hit .263 with a .695 OPS this year. The Expos have a couple of up and coming lefty arms in AAA in Pieter Koorn (3-2 3.47 ERA 46 IP, 1.39 Whip) and John Madden (1-1, 1.59 ERA, 6 IP, 1.06 Whip). The Expos will not execute his Option.

What the Expos will have to wait and see on is LHP John Coulter. The 3rd round, 81st overall pick of the Expos in 1970 has spent more time on I/R lists the rosters. In 1972 he missed 2 months with elbow strain, 1975 he missed 4 months with a ruptured finger tendon, in 1976 he missed 8 months with shoulder inflammation, in 1977 he was diagnosed with a torn labrum and missed the season, in April of 1978 he had a fractured elbow and again missed the season. In the last 3 years out side of spring training, he has pitched a collective 11 innings. The scouts feel that if he can stay healthy, he would get a lot of swings and misses. At 30 years of age, this is likely his last shot.

The Expos originally did not have intent of resigning C Mark Inge, he was likely going to be just a rental. But his World Series MVP performance and switch hitting ability makes the $2.5 M we will likely have to pay worth a shot until the previously mentioned Tony Sanchez is ready. A typical Inge season looks like hitting about .230 with 12 HRs and 40 RBIs.

The Expos picked up Yeong-il Shin in a trade in June expecting that with his versatility and average bat, he could help the Expos down the stretch. Well it did not work out that way with Shin hitting a dismal .071 with 0 HRs and 1 RBI in 32 plate appearances. The Expos will release him.

The Expos picked up 36 year old OF Mike Waddell in a trade with the Orioles in July. Although he did play OK, he did not produced enough to warrant the pay day he is looking for at free agency. The Expos grabbed him no real intentions of resigning him, Waddell is looking for $6.5 M a season for about a .250 hitter with 9 HRs and 37 RBIs a season. Not worth the money from the Expos stand point.

September 26th, 1978. The Chicago Cubs have signed SP Justin Chrzanowski to a 3 year, $75.8 M extension. The 35 year old was 9-5 with a 1.87 ERA in 21 starts for the Cubs in 1978. For his career, Chrzanowski is 93-47 with a 2.31 ERA in 196 starts over 10 MLB seasons.

October 1st, 1978. The Montreal Expos have signed free agent SP Jamari Taft to a 6 year, $53.0 M deal. The 30 year old was 9-5 with a 2.50 ERA in 21 starts last year with the Expos (11) and Astros (11). For his career, Taft his 46-29 with 1 save, a 3.05 ERA in 143 games including 106 starts. The Expos traded him to Houston at the deadline for OF Donato Bem.

October 3rd, 1978. The St Louis Cardinals have signed free agent SP Robby Green to a 3 year, $66.0 M deal. The 37 year old was 7-7 with a 2.54 ERA in 21 starts last year for the Dodgers. For his career, Green is 110-42 with a 2.54 ERA in 214 starts over 10 MLB seasons.

October 3rd, 1978. The Montreal Expos have traded LHP Jim Lea to the Houston Astros in exchange for RF Jesus Taveras. The 26 year old Lea was 5-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 16 starts for Montreal. For his career, Taveras is hitting .232 with 15 HRs and 60 RBIs in 180 MLB games over 3 MLB seasons.

October 7th, 1978. The Montreal Expos have signed international free agent LF Hua Xiao to a 2 year, $1.0 M deal. The 22 year old was a free agent from Tiawan. The Expos scout feels that he should control the strike zone well with good recognition of balls and strikes. He has above average power potential and could hit 30 HRs in the MLB in the future.

October 10th, 1978. The Kansas City Royals have signed free agent 2B Chris Taylor to a 2 year, $30.4 M deal. The 37 year old hit .279 with 10 HRs and 44 RBIs in 97 games last season with the Padres. For his career, Taylor is hitting .270 with 168 HRs and 545 RBIs in 983 games over 10 MLB seasons.

Did you know...... Montreal Expos 1B Darren Maher set a MLB record for 20 intentional walks in 1978. The 25 year old hit .239 with 14 HRs and 49 RBIs in 99 games last season. For his career, Maher is hitting .241 with 43 HRs and 144 RBIs in 266 MLB games over 3 seasons. Last season Maher had 64 walks and 64 strikeouts. The Expos definitely need to find a hitter behind Maher to protect him.

1979 Montreal Expos -MLB Preview
Name: MLB logo.png
Views: 13
Size: 11.0 KB

The 1979 Baseball is nearly upon us and with spring training completed, all the teams trim down to 25 players for the regular season. The reigning World Champs, the Montreal Expos completed spring training healthy, not one player on the DL to start the season. Some teams not so lucky.

Some of the current injuries to start the season....

Detroit Tigers 1978 AL Rookie of the Year, RF Tyler Hickenbottom will miss the first 3 weeks of the season with a concussion. The 24 year old hit .291 with 15 HRs and 55 RBIs in 91 games last year for Detroit.

Los Angeles Dodgers 3 time All Star and 2 time World Champion SP Eddie Naranjo will miss the 1979 season with a elbow ligament reconstructive surgery. The 38 year old who has 67 career wins over 10 years as a starter for the Dodgers, may never pitch again.

Chicago White Sox off season signing, 1970 AL MVP and 6 time All Star, SS Steve Printz is expected to miss up to 2 weeks with a strained rib cage muscle. The 37 year old is just 7 HRs shy of his 200th HR in 771 career MLB games.

Chicago White Sox 10 year veteran CF Adam Krauss is expected to miss up to 6 weeks with elbow inflammation. The 34 year old was the 1969 Rookie of the Year in the AL, 8-time All Star, 3 time World Champ and averages hitting .291 with 18 HRs and nearly 70 RBIs a season over his 10 year MLB career.

The BNN Top 100 Prospects list has been published. The Montreal Expos do not have any players in the Top 10, but have 3 players in the Top 100.

CF Dwaine Dorrian, the 16 year old ranks 30th in the MLB prospect list. The kid has never played a game yet professionally, he was signed as an International amateur free agent and will make his debut with the Nashville Sound, the Expos A organization. The Expos scouts think highly of Dorrian, and obviously so does the OSA, they feel that he will become an elite big league CF with his speed and bat.

LF Hua Xiao, the 23 year old was signed as a free agent out of Taiwan. He is currently ranked 47th in the MLB prospect rankings. Xiao had a productive spring training with the Expos and made the team, but when the Expos added CF Kevin Jones in a trade they sent Xiao to AAA. He hit just .228 but had 3 HRs and 10 RBIs in 57 at bats.

RHP Zach Hall, the 19 year old was ranked 68th in the MLB prospect rankings. Last year in AA he pitched from the bullpen and was 3-2 with a 5.98 ERA in 43 IPs. Certainly not a great showing. He does have 4 pitches and has good movement, potentially enough to be considered for a starters position down the road.

The Montreal Expos are overall ranked 20th in top Minor League Systems, this is an improvement on 24th ranked out of 24 teams for 1978.

The Oakland Athletics have picked up 1B/RF Jesus Taveras on waivers from the Montreal Expos. The Expos waived Taveras to make room for rookie OF Hua Xiao on the roster. Taveras hit .250 with 0 HRs and 1 RBI in 36 at bats during the spring.

The Montreal Expos traded 2B/LF Mat Garnett to the Houston Astros in exchange for CF Kevin Jones. The 29 year old Garnett hit .180 with 0 HRs and 8 RBIs in 27 games for the Expos last year. During spring training he hit. 127 with 1 HR and 5 RBIs in 26 games (55 at bats). Because he was out of options, the Expos traded him prior to waiving him to designate him to AAA. The 26 year old Jones hit .282 with 5 HRs and 36 RBIs in 82 games for the Astros last year. He hit .268 with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs in 25 games in spring training for the Astros this season.

The Expos have to be excited about their starting rotation and especially with the spring Joey Caputo had, he was 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 5 starts with a 1.25 WHIP. This allowed the Expos to demote LHP Jordan Hall who himself was pretty good last year. Eddie Hernanez had a good season, he led the NL with 143.2 IPs last year. Veteran Eric Marks will start the season in Montreal, he is a pending free agent and maybe trade bait at the deadline. Jim Pearcey started 1978 in the pen, but after the trade to Jamari Taft to Houston, he got moved into the rotation and pitched pretty well with 7 QS in 10 starts. The Expos are excited to have LHP Jamari Taft back, he is expected to pitch 2nd in the rotation behind Hernanez.

The bullpen is led by innings eater RHP Will Gibson. He pitched in half of the Expos games in 1978. He did not have a great spring, but the Expos are aware of what he is capable of with his 2.39 career ERA and 1.05 WHIP in the last 3 seasons. (139 IPs) The Expos are fortunate to have 2 great shut down RHP's, Mark Holmgren is coming off his best career season, where the opposition hit just .194. The Expos will have rookie LHP Pieter Koorn in the lineup to start the season. He did pitch 12 innings in the spring with a reasonable 1.30 WHIP. He did give up 4 HRs but struck out 13. He may not season critical situations at the start, but will provide a 3rd lefty out of the pen. CL Aidan Beasley set a career high with 28 saves, that led the NL as well but it was not his best season. His ERA 3.62 compared to his career average of 2.86 and his WHIP and HR/9 where career highs. His numbers in the spring were about the same, but only 14 innings of work.

At the catchers position, Mark Inge made the team as a result of his MVP post season in 1978. He hit just .173 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs in 52 spring at bats. But his experience will give the Expos 1 more year of getting the heir apparent ready for 1980. Speaking of, Tony Sanchez played in 15 games during the Expos spring training, he hit .417 with 3 HRs and 7 RBIs. One more year in the minors should not hurt him.

In the infield expect 1B Darren Maher to play in 95 plus games if he can stay healthy. The Expos expect the 25 year old to have a break out season and with Donato Bem protecting him at the plate, maybe not expect 20 intentional walks this year. The Expos still feel he has the ability to hit .270 plus with 25 HRs plus. Chris Nichols struggled a little last season hitting just .227 with 3 HRs and 12 RBIs while he was in the majors for 32 games, but he hit .316 2 years ago and hit .295 in 61 at bats in the spring. Could he provide some extra offense this year. On the other hand, can the Expos expect another .300 season out of 3B Gilberto Luna. A typical Luna season if he is healthy is .260 with 5 HRs and 31 RBIs. He only hit .203 with 0 HRs and 6 RBIs in 69 spring at bats. SS David Sanchez is another I am not sure what to expect. Last year he only appeared in 34 games with the Expos after being demoted to AAA. A career .253 hitter who averages 7 HRs and 35 RBIs when healthy, he only hit .194 with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs in 62 spring at bats.

In the OF, the Expos are looking forward to a full season of RF Donato Bem. The Expos are hoping for 15 HRs and 50 RBIs from Bem. He had a good batting average in the spring, .302 and .722 OPS but did not hit a HR in 63 at bats. A player that could make the difference offensively this year is Yue-Jiu Zhou. The 24 year old hit .316 in his rookie season but hit just .243 last year. Not expected to drive in runs, but to raise havoc on the base paths he did hit .300 in the spring with 1 HR and 5 RBIs in 60 at bats. The deal to get Kevin Jones this week could turn out very well for the Expos. The 1974 Astros 1st rounder should be able to give CF Plantz the occasional day off with a better bat. Jones in 173 career MLB games has hit .287 with 9 HRs and 65 RBIs. Speaking of CF Danny Plantz, this guy can help on the field, but hurt you in the batting line-up. A career .210 hitter in 325 games but a gold glover.

The BNN do not have the Montreal Expos to repeat this season, but they predicted the Expos to finish 4th in the NL East last year like they are again this year. The Phillies are predicted to win the NL East with a 59-41 record, every one else is predicted to be at about .500. In the NL West, it looks like they have predicted the Braves and the 1978 pennant champs the Reds to fight out. In the AL East, its a close battle with 4 teams. The White Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers and Red Sox are all predicted to finish within 3 games of each other. In the AL West, The Athletics are expected to finish with the best record in baseball, and a 9 game lead over the Twins.

The Houston Astros are in town to face the Montreal Expos on Opening Day. The Astros will start LHP Justin Bergman, the 35 year old was 13-3 with a 2.70 ERA in 21 starts and led the NL in wins for the 2nd time in 3 years. The Expos will go with 26 year old RHP Eddie Hernanez. He was 10-7 with a 3.13 ERA in 22 starts. Hernanez led the NL with 143 IPs last year. There are 35259 in the stands today.

The Montreal Expos started the 1979 season as the defending World Champs off with a win. Good pitching and a pair of HRs did it for Montreal today.

Expos Eddie Hernanez was the player of the game with his 8 innings of work. Hernanez starts the season 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in his 1st start. Hernanez was an All Star in 1978.

The Expos got a big at bat from an unlikely source today, CF Danny Plantz hits a 2 run HR in the bottom of the 4th that gives the Expos the 3-2 lead.

The Expos defense turned 3 double plays today including 1 in the 9th that aided Aidan Beasley to get his 1st save of the season.
