It was a pair of HRs by Kyle Looper and 2 WP's and 2 PB's that were the Expos undoing today.

C Kyle Looper hit a solo HR in the 4th and a 3 run HR in the 6th to give all the offense the Astros would need as he accounted for a 4-2 lead single handedly. The 25 year old is hitting .333 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs after 2 games this season. Looper is in his 3rd season in the MLB, he had a career high 4 HRs in 57 games with the Athletics last year when he also hit .231 and had 19 RBIs.

The Expos did get 3 hits from LF Yue-Jiu Zhou. Jamari Taft goes to 0-1 with the loss.

The Montreal Expos (1-1) go on the road and face their NL League Championship opponents the Cincinnati Reds (0-2). The Reds send RHP Nick Grace to the bump, he was 10-7 with a 3.18 ERA in 21 starts last year. The Expos counter with RHP Joey Caputo, the 26 year old was 7-3 with a 3.08 ERA in 15 AAA starts for Montreal.

The Expos put together a 10 batter, 4 run, 6 hit, 3 left on base 6th inning and thats all they would need. SP Joey Caputo led the inning off with a single and ended it with a bases loaded strikeout.

SP Joey Caputo was the player of the game, he is now 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in his 1st start of the season. This is Caputo's 3rd year that he has appeared in the MLB with the Expos, he had a career high 22 innings pitched in 1977 when he was 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 4 games including 3 starts.

The Expos got a big at bat with 2B David Sanchez, in the top of the 6th with the bases loaded his RBI single made the score 4-3 for Montreal.

Expos Aidan Beasley came in for he 9th and looked alot like the Beasley we seen most of last year as he struck out the side for his 2nd save of the year.

Montreal SP Jim Pearcey was living on the edge all game with walks and hits but had survived the first 4 innings without getting burn't, but that caught up to him in the 5th when he gave up a pair of 2 run HRs. The Reds SP Brendan Butler on the other hand, gave up 2 runs and 3 hits in the 1st inning, then shut the Expos down for the next 8.

Reds 1B John Johnson was the player of the game, he was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs which included a HR and a double. Johnson is now hitting .333 with 1 HR and 2 RBIs in 4 games. Johnson had a career high 7 HRs in the 1978 season when he hit .279 with 19 RBIs in 29 games for the Red Sox.

Jim Pearcey takes the loss and is 0-1 on the season.
