Another season is underway and Ghost Hill is once again is hoping to at least hold their own in the Gold Leagues. As the month of May quickly disappears, the Green Dragons find themselves stuck in neutral with a 22-26 record; which is only good enough for 4th place in the NC East division.

None of the starting pitching nor batting is standing out above the rest at this point, so it could be a long, mundane season.

(narrator's note: for whatever reason, I am unable to upload screenshots, so the pics of the team pages/standings will be missing until I can figure out what the problem is).

2/17 points gained: 845 (great glove awards for Boggs, Carasco and Pesky (7th consecutive))
2/18 points gained: 230

Meanwhile at The Spile, the Syrups have decided to accelerate their summer slump and kicked it off in the month of May instead. As they enter the last week of the month, the Syrups sit solidly in the basement of the AC West division at 19-28. After a decent start (for them) in April at 13-13, Waffletown staggered their way through May (currently 6-14 with 8 games remaining).

The offense, which has typically been a reliable part of the team, has been non-existent this season; ranking 15th in batting average and runs scored, and 14th in on base percentage. Even if management could afford a quality player to bring aboard, it probably wouldn't make a difference; as the team appears to be on the fast track to relegation this season. Only time will tell if they can turn things around in time to maintain their Diamond league status.

2/18 points gained: 410

Narrator's note:

Did a quick scan back through the thread and don't think I've mentioned it here, so full disclosure... the Waffletown Syrups logo is actually a from a real team. In 2018, the Vermont Lake Monsters changed their name for a single game to the Vermont Maple Kings, and also changed their logo to the syrup bottle (which I downloaded and used to create a logo for Waffletown). Little did I realize that they were still selling shirts/hats with that logo; so I took a quick peek at their merchandise site and found this.... heh.... it even came in Waffletown brown:

maybe it'll bring my boys good luck

In the wee hours of May 31st, the Waffletown GM pulled the trigger on another roster move, and brought aboard:

CL - Wilcy Moore - 1927 (88) for 3500 points

Management hopes Moore will be able to solidify the back-end of the staff and end the Syrups patented play-style of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Hugh Casey has been sent to the reserve roster to make room.

At the All-Star break, Ghost Hill finds themselves in a three-way tie for first place NC East division with a record of 51-47. The mediocre record reflects the rather mundane stats so far the team has generated; as no one is stepping up to separate themselves from the rest (only Mike Trout's 3.4 WAR registers on the league leaderboards, in 3rd position).

Management obtained enough points to purchase 2 more mystery packs. Ib return they received: SP - Juan Marichal (79). He will step into the 5th spot in the starting rotation and replace Rich Hill on the staff.

2/19 points gained: 610
2/20 points gained: 1405
2 packs purchased: -2000

An all-points-bulletin has been broadcast in Waffletown for their missing ball-club as the empty shells masquerading as ball-players couldn't win a game if their life depended on it. An abysmal month of May (8-20) was followed by an equally disastrous month of June (8-19). On the positive side, they won't be losing any games for the next four days, as the schedule takes a pause for the all-star break. They currently sit in last place in the AC West division at 36-62, 22 games back of the lead and 10 games out of 4th place.

Proving that good things can emerge even from the largest pile of manure, the Syrups managed to get one representative on the all-star roster. Relief pitcher, Herb Pennock will do his best to make the team proud (1-1, 41 IP, 1.54 ERA).... he is also the lowest rated player on the pitching staff at 70

On the manure end of the spectrum, new closer Wilcy Moore has struggled mightily to settle into his role with the team. He currently sits at 0-5 with 7 saves and a gaudy 6.98 ERA. Management will stick with him for now in the hopes he can start pitching up to his potential.

In an attempt to shake things up, management pulled the trigger on another deal just before the all-star break and brought in:

LF - Stan Musial - 1943 (82) for 7001 points

he will replace Heinie Manush in left field. Manush will move to the bench as backup and Paul Waner has been sent to the reserves.

2/19 points gained: 860
2/20 points gained: 540
