Anticipating the new version

This time of year is a lot of fun. The days before the launch of a new version of OOTP Baseball are always filled with anticipation and optimism. What kind of league will you create? Will you import your old league to the new version or start a new one? Historical or fictional? Stats-only? Finances or no finances?

Each year, amazingly, there are new features, new options, and maybe a legacy "issue" that is finally fixed. How does Markus do it???

I really enjoy reading this forum and being around so many happy, optimistic people at this time of year. I'm enjoying it now even though I didn't order OOTP15. Our desktop computer died last November, and the screen on our laptop is just too small to properly enjoy this great game. I have OOTP8 installed on the laptop, and OOTP12, and I still play OOTP5 from a flash drive, but it's a struggle for these middle-aged eyes. So, I'll be on the sidelines this spring, enjoying OOTP15 vicariously by reading what you guys have to say about it.

But when we do get around to buying a new desktop computer, I look forward to renewing my love affair with this great, great game. OOTP Baseball is the best sports management sim ever.

Why not buy a monitor and a cheap keyboard and plug em into the laptop?

Actually I'd like some advice on people on expansion - I thought I might give it a go this year. That is, taking the 2014 season, expanding it immediately (that is, so that 2014 includes 2 new teams), two sixteen team leagues with two divisions, no interleague, winner of each division plays LCS and then World Series. How difficult is this to achieve, schedules in particular worry me.

Never done this before.

I imagine you'd want to play a full Spring Training?

I modified this schedule and removed the start date parameter, in case you wish to delay the start of the season.

Please remember to import the schedule for both subleagues!

Mate, thank you very much - when you say you modified, you mean from 4x4 to 2x8? I'm still very green at messing with schedules but will absolutely give this a try when the game comes out. Thanks again!

After not playing the game for 2 years in a row, I pre-ordered OOTP15 and cannot await Friday to come!

My first season will be with the red sox trying to repeat and following the approach to develope prospects instead of spending lots of money for major deals.

Also I am very interested in bringing some german-baseball into MLB. Don't know yet if I'll create our local baseball team as a fictional addition to MLB or If it's going to be a rookie/Single-A team of my franchise. time will tell :-)

As I want to start as soon as possible, I'd like to make sure to have uniforms, logos, etc. available as soon as friday comes. Is there any possibility to prepare those files? Can I use the mods of ootp14?

Cheers

No, it's still listed as 4x4. You'd need to manually change it to 2x8.

...Actually, I think I'll just make a 2x8 schedule and post it later tonight. Ignore the earlier schedule.

EDIT: 2x8 Schedule posted. Just a quick StickWare job.

But then how are you supposed to watch MLB.tv in the background? I love this time of year, OOTP on the computer with the Braves game on the tv is as good as it gets.

If I play OOTP while also watching MLB. TV my laptop seems too overheat.

Yeah i guess that makes sense, I've never tried it though. I play MLB.tv on the PS3 so I never have an issue.

Obviously depends on the hardware. I'm usually running OOTP on my laptop with mlb.tv on an external screen and everything is fine. Doesn't seem to get hotter than running OOTP on its own.

+1

Finally took the plunge on MLB.tv this year. I'm a lot more impressed than I thought I would be. Pretty awesome service (blackouts notwithstanding).

Yeah it's definitely worth it, especially if you follow an out of market team

From what I've seen, these graphical elements tend to remain the same (size, format, etc.) from version to version, so you should be fine reusing OOTP 14 mods.

You're a legend - and just so I can be a complete dick about it, this is unbalanced right (is what I'd prefer, but I assume it is otherwise there's no difference between 4x4 and 2x8 anyway)?
