2014 Minor League Team/Affliation changes?

What teams have moved for the 2014 season? Plus any affliation changes?

I know Tucson became El Paso. The Bristol White Sox became the Pirates. The Cubs and Astros added an additional DSL team. The White Sox added an AZL team. That's pretty much it. Slow year for affiliation changes.

I think the Royals got rid of their AZL team.

Did they have one in 2013?

2013 Minor League Baseball Teams and Affiliates
Yes, that's a good site for minor league info, past and present.

Something else to try is visiting the local bookstore to see if it has the 2014 edition of the Baseball America Directory, as that book will have a summary of the changes for the upcoming season (along with lots of detailed information on the minors). Plus there's the Teams & Leagues page at the MILB.com web site which has the current list of minor league clubs, leagues, and affiliations.

I'm pretty sure the Royals played in Surprise last year. If they hadn't, there would have been an odd number of teams. When the Royals contracted, the White Sox filled their place.

I'm "surprise"d the Royals ditched their rookie team instead of one of their rookie-advanced teams.

By agreement MLB is obliged to support 160 minor league ball clubs. That means the number of teams in the Appalachian and Pioneer Leagues cannot be reduced unilaterally. If the Royals dropped out some other club would have to take over. (And in any event the PDCs aren't up until after the 2014 season; there'll probably be some affiliate shuffling as a result.)

the thing about minor league teams is that the major league clubs in general sign a affiliation contract with each club for 3 to 5 years and renew them when it comes up again. I know this because I used to live in a Minor League ball club city. The one thing I do not know and media will not reveal at least in my old city was how much was the deal for and what was the deal besides the number of years.

Two to four years, actually, with the deals expiring after the conclusion of seasons in even-numbered years.

The agreements don't involve money, as far as I'm aware. Major League Rule 56 sets out what's involved with a PDC(Player Development Contracts).

The major league club doesn't pay the minor league club directly for the affiliation. Rather, the PDC sets out how the costs for running the ball club (e.g. player salaries, travel, equipment, uniforms, etc.) are split between the major league and minor league team.

On a side note, is there anyway we can get correct playoff formats for Minor Leagues in the Quick-Start? I've seen this as an on-and-off problem in the past.

For those who play after what the current real year is, do you bother keeping up with all the changes? I am debating whether or not to make the changes.

You have to start making them on your own...which if you play real-time, probably isn't too demanding to keep up with

Player development contracts run in two or four year cycles, and a lot of them are coming up at the end of this season. We'll see some musical chairs like we saw two years ago this fall.
