I second this one! Especially since there seems to be some odd behavior with regards to players graduating from feeder leagues.

Yep, just tried this after someone posted an age limit question...and I couldn't do it for my affiliated minors

and please if this happens, test it to make sure the AI will not cut a 26 yr old just because he cannot be dropped to A

In the original newsletter for OOTP15 this was stated...

Not age limits but appears to be service time limits which IMO should pretty much do the same thing....I hope.

It should be a start of the season age.

Thanks for the quote. I hadn't considered that I could effectively use that tool as an age-limit. Crosses fingers.

I think I would prefer an age limit but at least a service time limit can prevent some grizzled veterans filling up a rookie level team or such. I look at the rookie leagues in some of the online league I am in and the teams winning it all have a bunch of 26yo career minor leaguers against my 19yo rookies.....so hopefully....

An age limit is needed.

An real life example where Age limits would seem much more appropriate than service time:

SP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez of the Phillies, the 27yo from Cuba. It is looking like he isn't MLB ready but there is talk of sending him to AAA or possibly AA, should they be allowed to send him to rookie ball? Based on service time limits you could but age limits wouldn't allow it.

Talk to your commish. This is a form of cheat. What happens is that if an owner keeps a few old guys that have no potential down in the lower levels they dominate the undeveloped kids. The team wins and everyones morale improves. With better morale players will perform better and potentially develop better.

Good point. I was thinking more from ascetic and competition point of view. Hadn't really thought about morale. Looks like several emails going out shortly

For the record, morale has no effect on development. Work ethic exists apart from the 'mood.'

hmmm..

I thought it cascaded.

Morale improves performance.

A player performing better develops better. Good to hear that I am wrong about the performance--->development thing.

Ok, that is good to know. I was under the impression that how 'happy' or 'unhappy' a player is could affect development.

Does morale affect performance then? I would guess it would have an affect on contract negotiations.

So the question is what does morale affect?

Definitely performance. That much is in the manual. *going to manual now*

"Players respond differently to challenges. Often, a player who is tearing up Double A hitting might not be developing very quickly, because he isn't being challenged. Similarly, putting an overmatched rookie into your major league starting lineup could actually hurt his development."

That last sentence is what me got to thinking that performance impacts development. If a rookie league player is overmatched by an older place-fillers it could impact his development.

What does Morale Affect?

Morale can affect a number of things in the game, including:

  • Player performance
  • Likelihood of the player asking for or accepting a contract extension
  • Likelihood of the player re-signing with your team in free agency
  • Likelihood of the player requesting or demanding a trade
  • Likelihood that the player will demand a change in his role on the team
So definitely morale impacts performance.

There was a discussion of this in the beta forums last week. Some online folks thought morale did affect development. Markus was very clear that morale does not affect development.

No need to look at the wording in the manual etc. There's no question on this, morale does not affect development. That's straight from Markus.

As for the age limits, it was stated in the release info that MiLB service time limits would be added for OOTP15. To quote:

There's currently some discussion in beta as to whether service time or age limits are better, but it seems pretty clear at this point that, barring any last minute issues, one of the two types of limits will be in 15.
