Real World Value of PT Cards

This is the first time I've played a game with persistent in game assets. So, please frame this question as such (no idea how this stuff tends to work):

Is there a future in which PT cards will have real world value? I.e. a marketplace where they can be sold for actual dollars.... either within or outside the structures OOTP builds.

Not super clear on how those things tend to develop and if the terms of service would allow it.

Nope. Doing so would open up a whole mess of legal and other issues, so they're completely contained within their game's ecosystem. You can sell cards and accumulate more PP and cards in that version, but that's it.

They have a real value as far as they are tied to the lowest $/PP exchange rate in the shop, but since you can not "cash out" (legally at least), the point is rather moot.

This was an issue in the baseball game by challenge coins a few years back, which was a simply outstanding game. They had several "rare" chase sets they'd release and people spent thousands upon thousands of dollars and would hang around in chat buying/selling/trading the cards. Though the devs told people that they "owned" the cards, when challenge coins sold to zynga and they closed shop, everyone's "assets" went up in a cloud of smoke.

You lost me at Zynga. What you said is very sad and sounds like a money grab from Challenge Coins.

People are saying "no" and "it can't possibly happpen".

Yet pretty much every MMO out there with an AH finds a way to circumvent this and have it's currency equal to real world currency in some way. I personally can't easily see how it will happen here, but I'd be shocked if someone doesn't find a way to sell cards for real money.

It would probably be selling accounts for real money, not cards. If OOTPD is on top of the PP funneling issues like they say they are, that would be the only almost undetectable way to turn PT into a sellable asset.
