Clipped from the Sunday Morning edition of the Coaltown Gazette...The Forum was packed with local boxing fans and many visiting Kennedy supporters from the New England States...Both Jack Munroe and Joe Kennedy weighed in the vicinity of 195 pounds though Munroe seemed to be carrying a bit more suet around his waist...After the first round Munroe seemed to pay little heed to instructions from his chief second George Dixon...Kennedy took some wicked blows in round three and surprised many when he remained standing...In Cleveland Referee Eddie Smith has been summoned by the state athletic commission to explain his verdict in the McAuliffe-Mercer fight...

Clipped from the Halifax Chronicle...Jack Munroe is back in the gym on the heels of his loss to Joe Kennedy and quickly admits he failed to stick to the plan laid out by his trainer George Dixon...Dixon and Munroe's new manager Tim McGrath have publicly questioned the action of the city police in interfering with the bout and support the fight's promoter and his notion of a rematch with Kennedy...In a side article Toronto heavyweight George Chuvalo has been made an overwhelming underdog by betting pools in San Francisco and Los Angeles based on his previous showing against Peter Jackson prior to the latter gaining the world championship....Jackson has moved to his training camp outside Los Angeles and has hired Tom Sharkey, James Jeffries, and Jack McCormick as sparring partners...

From the February 1892 issue of Mitt Slingers Magazine...NABF champion George Chuvalo has moved his camp from Toronto to San Pedro, California near Beacon Street in preparation for his clash with Peter Jackson and is looking to hire suitable spar-mates ...According to a report by the IBU carried in the San Francisco Call, James Corbett, Tom Sharkey and Bob Fitzsimmons are practically interchangeable in the latest rankings as Corbett has fought draws with both Sharkey and Fitzsimmons, and the latter named are expected to meet sometime this year...Jerry Quarry of Bakersfield has surprised many with his decisive victory over Jimmy Bivins and his manager plans on getting him into the ring again soon against someone like George Godfrey, or "The Barrier Champion" Joe Goddard who defeated the young Californian last year...English sensation Joe Beckett is currently in training to face either Jack Root or European Boxing Union champ George Gardiner at London's renowned National Sporting Club...

From the Sunday Morning Toronto Telegram....In Halifax Jack Munroe gained a measure of revenge over Joe Kennedy with referee Hugh MacNeil's stopping their return bout and awarding it to the local lad with a minute remaining in the final round...MacNeil said he stopped it when one of Kennedy's seconds tossed water on their man as he pulled himself up on the ropes near his corner...At Tattersall's Arena in Chicago big Sandy Ferguson knocked out Yank Kenny with little effort...James Jeffries the former boilermaker needed only a round and a half to put away Jim McCormick...There is talk that the Marathon Club in Chicago will put on a card featuring a six round contest between Denver Ed Martin and Jack Johnson the Galveston heavyweight...Promoter Leo Roberts is trying to get South Afrika's Corrie Sanders to headline a card at Coaltown's King Street Arena this Spring...

Clipped from two issues of the Los Angeles Herald....Pete Everett put up a valiant effort but Gus Ruhlin proved too strong for him this time...Lionel Butler was scheduled to box Kid McCoy at Brown's Arena in Flatbush but McCoy pulled out with an injury and Young Peter Jackson stepped in...Butler seemed strangely confused by Jackson's clever defence and failed to make use of his greater strength and weight on the inside much to the displeasure of the punters at ringside who wagered heavily on him...The loss will be a major setback for Butler as Jackson was not ranked highly by the IBU...At Mechanics Pavilion Billie Roche stopped the six round fight between Tom Sharkey and Joe Choynski because of a severe gash on Choynski's head and awarded the win to Sharkey who seemed ahead at the time of the stoppage...Bob Fitzsimmons' manager Martin Julian has lodged an official protest with the Winnipeg Boxing Commission claiming Referee Joe Francis allowed Joe Goddard to use illegal tactics in their championship contest last week including low blows and use of his head inside....

Excerpt of a page from the February Mitt Slingers Magazine retrieved from the wife's house cleaning, (bless her heart)....After beating Corbett and Fitzsimmons and with a decision over Chuvalo in a previous encounter Jackson is a heavy favourite to retain his championship belt against the brawny Canuck...Rumours abound that Diamond Jim Brady and Horace "The Prince of the Barbary Coast" Briggs are putting up a purse of over $15,000 for the international championship contest to be sponsored by San Francisco's Olympic Athletic Club...The box office has been flooded with wired requests for tickets from as far away as London and Buenos Aires....The attraction of the coming contest is said to be partly responsible for the explosion of new licensed and unlicensed bars and groghouses in the city now numbering over 5,000...Famed New York artiste Miss Lillian Russell is reportedly booked to perform at the Bella Union during the week before the fight...

Clipped from the San Francisco Call...Peter Jackson fought the perfect fight keeping George Chuvalo at arm's length for most of the bout utilizing his unerring straight left and blinding combinations...The challenger worked the body when he could get close but it wasn't until the ninth round that he was able to sustain his attack...A cut opened by Jackson's lightning right in round 4 grew worse as the battle progressed causing Referee Hiram Cook to pause the action several times to have the ringside physician examine the injury...By the end of the 11th round Chuvalo's face was a bloody mask but Cook gave him a chance to continue finally halting it at 2:28 of the 12th round...An examination of the referee's scorecard shows he gave Jackson rounds 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 and the Canadian rounds 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11...Chuvalo later claimed if not for the cut he would have got to Jackson in the next few rounds...Jackson earned 75% of the $15,000 purse or $11,250 plus 60% of 50% of the gate receipts...Chuvalo takes home his 25% of the purse or $3,750 plus 40% of 50% of the gate receipts...Both men were paid $1,000 by the Olympic Club for training expenses and Jackson collected $2,500 in side wagers...It is estimated that more than $200,000 in California alone changed hands in wagering on the fight...

From the San Francisco Call and Los Angeles Herald...Gus Ruhlin's manager Billy Madden nixes the fight with Corbett on the grounds that his boy is still recovering from an injury sustained in the Everett fight...Jim Corbett accepts a smaller purse from the Olympic Club to defend his American title against Bob Armstrong...Armstrong nearly upsets the Californian rushing him around the ring with a furious assault and putting Corbett on the canvas twice....Armstrong either tires or gets careless leaving himself open to a short-arm jolt that stuns him and lowers his guard long enough for Corbett to launch one last desperate attack of his own that breaks through Armstrong's defence and lays him out cold in the ninth round...

From the pages of the Monday morning Detroit Tribune...Stories circulate that Phineas P. Milquetoast the California representative of the International Boxing Union ordered Referee Hiram Cook to stop the Jackson-Chuvalo fight because too much blood shed was bad for the sport's image...Referee Cook denied he was influenced by Mr. Milquetoast and had given Chuvalo plenty of opportunity to get the job done without bias towards the champion....In a related story Donnie "Schemer" Stump manager of John L Sullivan apparently wined and dined two IBU officials in New York with the aim of getting his boy a shot at Peter Jackson's title...IBU spokesman Arnold Rothstein admitted the attempt was made but no assurances were given to Sullivan or his manager...

Clipping from the late edition of the Chicago Daily News....Galveston heavyweight Jack Johnson was loud in his protests of the decision rendered in his bout with Billy Stift and many in the crowd agreed....Based on his appearance in the ring the other day Jack Munroe seems to be enjoying the local cuisine a wee bit too much....George Godfrey is still waiting for the flood of offers he expected to receive off his wonderful upset of George Chuvalo and the acquisition of the Canadian championship belt...Former middleweight contender Mike Schreck has elected to join the ranks of the big men and is packing on the pounds at Spike Sullivan's in Los Angeles....
