How are Blake Snell and Frank Baker? Plus team advice. (long)

Thinking about unloading one of my diamonds so I can get 15-20 packs to start building my team up.

Has anyone used either Snell or Baker in the beta? Worth keeping or sell em?

Here is my current team, current record: 25-27
1. 92 Blake Snell - 2-4, 3.84
2. 89 James Paxton - 2-5, 5.34
3. 80 Michael Kopech - 3-4, 3.90
4. 75 AJ Puk - 4-3, 5.27
5. 70 Matt Strahm 3-5, 4.76

Pen:
67 Vern Bickford - 35 ip, 3.03
69 Luke Gregerson - 17 ip, 6.23
66 Silvino Bracho - 18 ip, 4.00
69 Archie Bradley - 26ip, 2.02
71 Zach Duke - 24 ip, 2.25
81 Kaz Sasaki - 20 ip, 5.31
89 Sean Doolittle - 26 ip, 1.05, 10 sv

Lineup:
SS 69 Brock Holt / 68 David Freese
RF 66 Paul Warner / 65 Jesse Winkler
C 78 Bob Boone / 64 Salvy Perez
3B 90 Frank Baker
LF 71 Marcell Ozuna
2B 71 Jedd Gyorko
1B 65 Eric Hosmer / 61 Bob Horner
CF 73 Chris Taylor
DH 65 Hunter Renfroe

Key Reserves, any good?
64 historical allstar Elvis Andrus
49 Jim Thorpe (46 contact, 70 power)

Actually typing it all out, I see how weak my batting is, and my pen besides my setup and closer. My rotation seems decent tho.

What area should I concentrate on upgrading first? And the big question do I unload Snell and Baker, let's say I make 30k... so 30 packs for those two or hang on to them?

Thanks and good luck guys!

Aparicio has been very good for me. Very strong defense at shortstop and fast on the basepaths. I've been training him all around the infield and at a minimum he'll be my reserve infielder.

How do you train someone at other positions? I might move him onto the team. He plays SS, if I can train him to cover 2nd or 3rd, he would be better than David Freese... Ap has 92 speed and steal, but no HR power.

Brock has 68 contact, 103 speed, 98 steal. But only plays LF, if I can get him to cover RF or CF, he would be a solid pinch runner.. maybe replacing Winker.

I had Puk in beta and did ok the first season then went to town the next two. Stramm did crap the first season and somewhat ok the next ones. I have Bickford now and he is holding his own

Just have him play 3B and 2B. He has no power, but he's been steal bases like crazy. You probably could rack up a bunch of steals with both of them.

I'm starting to realize that. I went and wrote down everyones ratings, and reset my line ups... I have Brock on the team now, trying to find a way to get Aparicio onto the team... have some base stealing threats going!

Checked his stats (but I forget them already) - they aren't as good as Brock or Apricio if I recall.

Brock - 103 speed, 98 steal, 94 base running
Aparicio - 92 speed, 92 stealing, plus really good defense

Speeds a good way to pick up some points if you're on a super tight budget. If you're trying to win games, I think there's much better ways.

I'd list all your diamonds, use half on packs and half on value silvers. If they don't sell, just plug them back in.

Milan is 98 speed, 100 stealing, 76 baserunning. Only a 63 in CF due to the error rating, 63-14-53 on offense for contact/power/eye. In the beta period he stole over 100 bases for me 2 of the 3 seasons. He's very similar to a guy like Mallex Smith. Gives you OBP+speed, and decent enough D.

As for what to do for the OP, you do need to upgrade that offense. If you wait for points to come in, probably best to go for those value silvers to shore up the lineup. Or if you sell, then yeah using some on packs and some on the auction house probably makes sense. Sometimes it can be worth it to list a guy for a high amount, and maybe someone will bite. If Snell can bring in 15k+, that can buy you like Paxton/Corbin + 5 packs plus change, or like a Keuchel/McCullers/Mikolas plus 10k or so to play with.

Baker's an unknown, since his card seems a bit more rare. Maybe it fetches a lot, maybe not. If you can sell him for a decent amount more than you can buy a Machado for, that's probably a very small downgrade in talent. But there's none of him on the market right now, so really no clue what it might fetch. Would hate to list him and then realize that I could sell him for 10k more than I did.

The names you just rolled off are why you need a lot more high end cards.

I tried a high auction price with a 2 hour limit earlier today. I sold a 2005 Jimmy Rollins All-Star (OVR 71). He was hitting .123 for me, and there was none in the AH. I had a 750 min bid and a BIN for 5,000 PP.

I think it sold for 5,000 in about 30 minutes.

Someone else put one up about 20 minutes after me with a 48 hour limit for 100PP.

Already have Paxton in my rotation. I think my rotation is solid for being early off.

And, yeah, I don't know what to do with Baker... i don't think any have been listed yet, so I don't know what to value him at.

But yeah, I see your point. I need to unload the diamonds now, while people are spending, to upgrade that lineup.

Ha, I did wonder what Frank "Home Run" Baker would look like in PT. Lead the league with 10 HRs, really earned his nickname.

Guys like me who are building teams exclusively with historical players would pay a premium for guys like Baker.

I take that back. I can’t speak for others but I certainly would.

He is my DH and he plays well beyond his stats
Give him a try if you do not believe

I have no clue what to list it for tho, that's the problem. Has anyone seen any in the auction?

That brings up a question - are all our auction houses the same, or are they league specific. For example: If I list the Baker card, can you guys bid on it, or is it only people in my league?
