...and get away with it by reason of insanity. - If they don't hit, you must acquit!

The 1919 Senators comparison is a fantastic one. Walter Johnson led the AL in ERA that year with a spiffy 1.49 mark. His record was 20-14.

Fun times. Both then and now.

It really is amazing, jaw-droppingly bizarre. The man has a 0.87 ERA in his last 10 starts and the Mets are 2-8 in them. Can you win the Cy Young Award with less than five wins?

They had two guys in the starting lineup yesterday batting under .200 and another guy batting exactly at .200 when the day was done (with only two Mets hits). Two more players in that lineup are batting under .220. That's five out of eight position players and the rest were Frazier .227, Rosario .237, and Nimmo .265.

But it's more than that. "Conforto’s hit was his first in 10 days. Frazier is 5-for-27 (.185) with 11 strikeouts and one walk since coming off the disabled list. Bruce is hitting .193 the past month. Even Asdrubal Cabrera is in a 4-for-42 (.095) funk the past two weeks."

I'm trying to remember if I have ever seen futility like this in all the decades that I have been following baseball.

EDIT: Well, at least deGrom has some good company here:

You basically never want to be on any list with Roger Craig. Nothing against Roger Craig. I am sure he is a nice guy. But you just don't want to be on any list with him.

I saw most (well, more than half) of the Mets games this year, even if most have come the next day for me as I like my sleep this year and don't feel like staying up until four in the morning. I skipped last night's unmitigated disaster. They scored three runs! On... three homers. And... had only one more hit outside that.

Oh boy.

They're now 1-11 in their last 12 (the 1 was against us ) but from how you sounded, I thought that they maybe had won? But not, losing 6-3.

You mentioned the three homers, by the guys who seem to have potential: Conforto, Nimmo, and Rosario. Some of the rest, you should get rid of by trade or release. Not just the older ones (Bautista, Bruce) but some of the younger deadwood who may still have value (such as Smith who wasn't doing well in Triple-A before you called him up).

The Mets will come out of this tailspin someday and it will be interesting to see who the players are that will step up and how the team deals with the rest who are bums.

Two outs in the ninth, losing by two, a four-run rally starts with a bunt single by Reyes.

Now a two-game win "streak."

Said very cautiously: Turning a corner?

First winning "streak" in almost a month, actually. I would want to wait until an actual winning week...

Three-peat! And, they scored more runs yesterday than in the rest of June, I bet. And, they supported Jacob deGrom who, if they continue to do that, might win as many as 10 games this year!

It took longer than I thought it would but it seems the media vultures have begun circling:

Easy to imagine the end of Sandy Alderson-Mickey Callaway regime

Callaway is apparently no longer the wunderkind that a 11-1 record suggested at the time. It's probably not fair (although in McAdoo's case, it was) but I've learned over the years to not feel sorry for these guys. It's part of the job that they are asked to go when things get bad enough because it's the easiest and quickest fix available. They know this when they accept these jobs.

The problem with this team are the crooks who are earning the joint, the dear Wilpons. They can't afford to run a winning team, and they don't seem to be interested, either. Unfortunately, it's hard to sack them.

Due to the World Cup I haven't watched a lot lately, but I am watchig last night's game right now, which is another nightmare, and Gary Cohen just unrolled this statlet:

The earliest in a year, ever, any team completed a swing from 10 over 500 to 15 under 500 in the same season were the 2002 Indians, who did it on August 3 that year.

The 2018 Mets did it before the end of June.

THE HORROR.

Well, I sincerely hope you guys "get it in gear" soon. I've been avoiding posting here because I don't like seeming to be dumping on a dead horse, to mix metaphors, but I don't like the Mets to be this bad. It's a bad reflection on New York, it's bad for the intra-city rivalry that they have with the Yankees, and no, I don't care to give them sympathy support.

I also don't want bandwagon fans like this guy. Take him back, please (click the image):

I will readily take over dead horse kicking duties. Gary Cohen just announced that Elias found out that the Mets tied a MLB record yesterday in getting their leadoff man on base seven times and yet getting shut out in nine innings. No team has gotten on MORE than seven while getting shut out in a nine-inning game since 1961.

Fas-ci-na-ting.

Though honestly, my second favorite team has always been the Braves (Dale Murphy and Hank Aaron are two of my favorite players). So I'd probably have to go with them, meaning I'd end up on some sort of twisted racoon hit list! LOL.
