Dumb question but, how and where do you install your new database?
Just don't want to go through the hassle and frustration of my self-inflicted mistakes.......

That way it is a separate file within the stats folder and will never be overwritten when I update with a patch. You just have to make sure you point to it properly when you go to import your players. Not that difficult. It keeps it separate from the default database and that's the way I like it because it is a different database. I'd be very careful about overwriting the default database with the Spritze database, just in case you discover you want to return to the default database after all. Any other questions, post away.

I created the NL in 1900. But when turning on automatic expansion and going to 1901 all the teams fold and are replaced. Except for the Boston NL team.

I use the same team names and abbreviations when creating a league.
I am up to 1899 in my league and am trying to convert it to automatic expansion in 1900 or 1901. The problem is that when the new teams are created the team history's go with the folding team.

So i have a new Pittsburgh Pirates with no history and Pirates team with a team history from the 1880's folding when it didn't need to. Why is the game insisting on creating new teams when it does not need to? I am not creating a new league.

This has happened to me as well. I think the cause is the "I created" part. If I use the built-in expansion and never create my own teams this does not happen. It only happens when going to 1901. Never in any other year. Still wish we could get it fixed though but it ain't really a bug.

Yeah i noticed that. My problem is that i use the same rosters and teams as the actual 19th century leagues. I did have to skip the UA and PL leagues but other than that everything went pretty easy and faster than the league i did last year. That is until now. This pretty much is stopping point for me unless i keep doing everything manually.
Maybe use an earlier version and convert to 18?

Really sucks because i organized all the expansion teams, rookies, transactions, historical owners, managers, ballpark changes, team nickname changes into one spreadsheet.

For the most part a players career matched the teams he actually played for. When it didn't it was mostly i just missed manually making the signing or release even though i had it in my spreadsheet.

Cy Young has almost 300 wins and would still have till 1911. I did see a 53 game hitting streak as well. Cap Anson make to 3,000 hits but didt make it to his real total.
There were some surprise teams but also some teams like the Orioles and Phillies that duplicated their real league success.

I created a league starting in 1901. I deleted Boston and created a new Boston team with same name and abbreviation. At the end of the year the game removed that team and created a new in its place. No other teams changed. So im guessing it might have something to do with the team ids.

I was able to go back to ootp 17 and got the rookies to import to correct teams for pre-1901 leagues. I was also able to import the league to 18 and when expansion came up 18 didn't create new teams for the active teams.
So i guess i can use 17 up to 1901. That's ok. 17 was great but i hope ootp would fix this in the future.

I've been away from the game for a while, but I am interested in running historical sims. I've been working all day on and off to get Spritze's DB to work so I can load all 9 original teams from 1871....

However, if I use the 19th century teams file, I get a historical team import failed error every time.

If I use the vanilla teams file, I am unable to select any teams to import.

Can someone with the patience of Job help walk me through the process of setting up a historically accurate 1871 simulation, using Spritze's new OOTP18 database and ideally the teams file at the top of this thread?

I've read the entire thread a few times and I can't see anything I'm missing. I've copied the files over from the downloads, overwritten the existing vanilla OOTP files and started a fresh game, gotten the game loaded, then I go to Edit League Structure, to remove the fake OOTP teams and add in the real teams, and that's where everything goes wrong.

Thanks in advance!

They kinda mess things up for 19th century play in 18. You pretty much have to do everything manually unless your ok with duplicate players and every team becoming an expansion team when you turn on automatic expansion.

I would advise using version 17 if you want to start in 1871 as it possible to get rookies going to correct teams and when you switch to auto expansion it doesn't make all your current teams go defunct.

You can use 17 and sim from 1871-1900 and the import the league into 18 and turn on auto expansion. It will not have the all teams folding issue but you may find duplicate players.

I have a spreadsheet of transactions of players, managers and owners i use. Its pretty simple and doesn't take me long to use each year but version 18 is what makes it a pain to do.

Looks like only three players were duplicates for me after importing and importing rookies for 1901.
Jack J O'Brien, Hal O'Hagan and Jack O'Connor. I made a backup of the Master csv and deleted all three from the Master csv in the stats folder.
Not sure why they imported again in 1901.

I guess i was wrong. For some reason the game still wants to import
Jack J O'Brien, and Jack J O'Connor as rookies in 1901 when neither were rookies in 1901. I deleted Hal O'Hagan from the Master csv file and that prevented him from importing again in 1901. I checked the imported league from 17 and the players are only listed in the league history once. but every time i proceed to 1901 they get imported again.
I checked the names and i deleted the correct ones so i have no idea why it would work with Hagan and not the others.

I pretty much had it with 18. I think i am just gonna go back to 17 or play some Civ 6 Rise and Fall until 19 is released.

For instance there are two Jack O'Briens in the database born 13 years apart, one bats left, the other right. Their careers overlap for 2 years. Could it be something like that?

Neither was a rookie in 1901 though.

They are definitely the same player. For 1899 one shows his real life stats in batting while the 2nd shows his sim stats. The birth year is different but month and day is the same. It looks like he didn't play in 1900. I can't sign him to washington till i proceed to 1901. As soon as i proceed and before i have the option of signing him or turning on auto transactions the 2nd one is imported.
Here are both players.

The birth year being different made them 2 different players in the database.

Someone already spotted this and reported it in bug reports and it was fixed but not until after the final OOTP18 update.

This type of error is not an OOTP thing. It originates at BBref. Players have spotted hundreds of similar errors over the last year reporting them in the bug report section titled Historical Database issues and 100% of them have been fixed in the OOTP database so that overall the OOTP database is more correct than BBrefs as I do not think anyone reviews the BBref data. Besides birthdates other things that can cause duplicate players are alternate spellings and where they use nicknames and first names interchangeably.

I offered (3 times) to inform BBref of all the errors the OOTP gamers spotted to help them clean up their data but they did not respond.

As you spot errors please report them in the bug reports forum. I check out and fix each one in the OOTP database. Don't worry that someone else may have spotted it already as I'd rather get two reports than zero.

Does the game not use the Master csv to import players?
I only saw Jack O'Brien and Hal O'Hagan in that file once. Both were showing up as duplicates.
As a test I deleted both from the Master csv and tried again. Whats weird is that after deleting them O' Hagan's duplicate doesnt show but O'Brien's still does. I checked the names and i deleted the correct ones.
I created a new league in 1900 with the edited masters csv file and O'Brien still shows up. So im guessing the game doesn't get the rookies from there but i don't know why one duplicate disappears but the other still shows up.
I pretty much washed my hands with 18 and have gone back to 17.

The game does not use the displayed master.csv nor any other csv's.

It is just there for your viewing pleasure. Any changes you make there do not appear in game.

This is a bug that was not reported until after the last OOTP18 update was released. Again I urge you to use the bug report threads whenever you find something. General forum posts are not regularly scanned for issues. Just mentioning it here will likely not result in it getting fixed. Over in bug reports it will get attended to.

Thanks for the response. I tried using 17, but I used Spritze's 18 database, and I had the same issue, I was unable to import historical teams. Does it matter? Should I find the 17 database of his to use for pulling players in?
