It's a great signing for the Reds.

More giant holes in the lineup, exactly what the Royals need.

Well, they just got rid of a career fail in Escobar, seems like they want to plug that "hole".

As we are on it - that Alcides Escobar was elected the starting shortstop in the 2015 All Star Game, a year he batted for a .614 OPS, must be the biggest fraud in All Star balloting history.

On the plus side, Billy Hamilton would be an actual upgrade over wrongly-swirled yogurt Abraham Almonte who they played in centerfield all year despite being obviously and wholly inept. Hamilton at least can steal a base that one time a week he reaches.

If it ends up being the reported 1y/$5.25M deal, fair play, they can not really lose on a one-year deal.

Truth is, as long as Billy Hamilton has the legs to steal 60+ bases in a season, he will always find a major league contract because every year, a GM will hope he hits the jackpot... the one year where Hamilton has like an OBP of .350 or more and racks up an absurd number of steals and runs scored.

May never happen, but there are worse players to bet on.

Yeah, you can't slump on speed, but come on, the overall package there is just blech.

(Maybe the Royals are at their 2005 Raccoons phase, when I ran out Yoshi Yamada for an entire season for a .208/.238/.258 clip and 54 SB. Wasn't good enough for a positive WAR then, won't likely be now.)

I remember playing a Marlins save where I went with all speedsters I could get + Stanton and I think in one season, I broke the record for most steals by a team in a regular season... did not win the World Series with that. Stanton got injured...

Of course, I had Hamilton in that save... he was bad... but hey, maybe the hitting coaches in KCR teach him something the guys in Cincinnati didn't.

Or not, and they paid $5.5M for the fastest potato in Major League Baseball... realistically, I tend to agree with you that that skillset is pretty bad.

Hamilton only has a career because practically nobody else steals bases anymore. Which is kind of more a problem with the current direction of the game than anything else, but there you go.
