The Blue Jays clearly eased off after clinching yesterday, and they still nearly came back and stole a win. In the end it was the Orioles with the 8-7 victory.

WP - Spike Beatty (7-1)
Save - Dan Quisenberry (31)
LP - Ron Guidry (15-8)

Record - 107-38

The story today is not the 5-3 loss to the Yankees. It is the three players (Ken Phelps, Buddy Bell, and Juan Romano) who left the game with injury.

It appears that the rest of the season will be about managing the lineup and making sure they are fit and healthy when the post-season arrives.

Paul Molitor homered for Toronto.

All of the injured players just need a few days rest.

WP - Mike LaCoss (11-13)
Save - Lee Smith (29)
LP - Nolan Ryan (18-5)

Record - 107-40

The current Blue Jays losing streak continues as the Jays fell 3-2 to the Yankees after a Kevin Mitchell walk-off home run.

Mike Krukow sits one short of twenty wins.

Bill Johnson hit his 11th home run.

WP - Lee Smith (6-7)
LP - Mike Krukow (19-5)

Record - 107-41

Bert Blyleven pitched a perfect game into the 6th but that's when it all fell apart. He left the inning down 6-1. Thankfully the Blue Jays put up a five run 9th to edge the Yankees 7-6.

Kirk Gibson and Terry Kennedy homered for Toronto.

WP - Dan Ross (1-0)
Save - Daniel Peters (53)
LP - Lee Smith (6-8)

Record - 108-41

Erik Heath came in as a pinch hitter in the 9th and his sac fly tied the game. He stayed in and made an amazing throw from right field to stop a run scoring. Ken Phelps ended it in the 10th when his 3rd hit in the game gave the Blue Jays a 5-4 win over the Tigers.

Phelps also homered for the 41st time this year.

WP - Antonio Gonzalez (8-4)
LP - Ralph Botting (3-5)

Record - 110-43

Kirby Anderson let us know that he is hanging them up.

The Jays signed him as a minor league free agent in 1983 but he never got above A-ball.

An eight run outburst in the 7th was too much for the Tigers to handle and the Blue Jays won 9-3.

Ken Phelps hit his 38th home run, leaving both him and Eiichi Hasegawa at 99 RBI.

Dave Stieb pitched into the 9th in an 8-1 Toronto win over the Tigers.

Eiichi Hasegawa and Ken Phelps both reached 100 RBI in back-to-back at bats.

Elton Garrett and Kirk Gibson homered.

In some bad news, Buddy Bell left the game with hamstring issues. It is unclear what his playoff status will be.
