Puig to the Reds

just caught a blurb that the Dodgers have traded Puig, Matt Kemp and Alex Wood to the Reds for Homer Bailey and some prospects....

wonder if they are making $$ space for a Machado or Harper deal?

Puig would basically clear the outfield spot for Harper I guess. Not a bad trade for both sides if the Dodgers get Harper or Machado, depending on the prospects moved.

I mean, Puig could be a change of scenery guy that gets better with a new team and a new voice in his ear and Kemp is in the final year of his contract anyways right?

And Wood has been a solid pitcher lately.

Edit: All three big players the Reds are getting are in their final year of the contract... really now depends on the prospects moved...

Confirmed from LAD:

The Los Angeles Dodgers today acquired minor league IF Jeter Downs, minor league RHP Josiah Gray and RHP Homer Bailey from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for C/IF Kyle Farmer, outfielders Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig, LHP Alex Wood and cash considerations.

Good trade for the Reds. Just getting rid of Bailey makes it a good deal for them.

Still far from enough to make them relevant in their own division.

Interesting - Reds new hitting coach - Turner Ward, who was the Dodgers hitting coach for the past 3 seasons. He's quite happy about the addition.

Bailey was released by the Dodgers almost immediately, so yeah they are definitely clearing $$$ off the payroll. Harper probably makes more sense for them if they can clear another OF.

I think it's because it's bad karma to have a pitcher named Homer. Might as well have a DH named Whiff.
